West London is a part of the capital known for its bustling streets and imposing monuments.
If one goes by the recent arrival of a certain cheese boat restaurant, there could be another attraction drawing visitors to this famous part of London.
The Cheese Barge is dedicated to promoting British cheese and currently holds the esteemed title of being the only fully cheese-focused restaurant in London.
Sounds pretty delicious, right?
This is just the latest venture from the cheese connoisseurs who are responsible for some of London’s other land-based cheese hotpots – The Cheese Bar in Camden and Pick & Cheese at Seven Dials.
The guests had to wait two years for the cheese boat to arrive.
The initial announcement of its opening was made in 2019, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, plans to open have been severely delayed.
The Floating Restaurant is anchored on the side of the Regent’s Canal in Paddington and will showcase the best of British cuisine.
It has already proven to be a big hit since it opened a few weeks ago on May 20 and is expected to become even more popular when the lockdown restrictions are further relaxed on June 21 (hopefully).
The double-decker boat has an impressive height of 96 feet, while providing an outdoor dining experience on the upper deck.
In addition to its wide range of cheeses, The Cheese Barge will also be a welcome addition to Regent’s Canal waters due to its affordable prices.
Alcoholic drinks start from £ 5, while diners can afford eight cheese platters for £ 4 each or the reduced total of three for £ 10.
How to get there
The Cheese Barge sits on the edge of the Paddington Central Canal, next to London Shell Co.
The nearest station is Paddington. If you are coming on the Hammersmith & City, District or Circle line, exit the station and turn left – you will see the restaurant just along the towpath.
If you are coming via the Bakerloo line or the national train, you will need to go through Paddington station. Go straight down from platform 8, go up the ramp at the end and follow it to the right.
At the end, turn left, pass Costa and go up the stairs to your right. Turn left at the top of the stairs and you will see the boat straight ahead!
