The Potomac Paddle Pub, which opens to the public on October 4, combines paddle boats and beer. Paddlers bring their own beer and snacks for the ride on the 15-person boat.
WASHINGTON – A one-of-a-kind attraction in DC will combine pedal boats and beer: the Potomac Paddle Pub.
Jack Maher and Jack Walten – or “The Jacks” as they are called – came up with the idea for their 15-passenger boat after seeing similar attractions on land.
âWe were looking at the bike bars on the street and thought how cool it would be if that was something you could do on the water,â Walten said.
Paddlers can bring their own beer and snacks for the ride. The boat is wide enough to allow passengers to move around the deck and take turns paddling.
The Potomac Paddle Pub is eco-friendly, using only solar panels and paddlers to move the boat forward. âIt really aligns with our values ââfor sustainability,â said Walten.
When passengers make a reservation, they will also be able to give back to their community. âYou actually have the option of rounding up to the nearest dollar and donating the rest to Potomac Conservancy,â Maher said.
The Potomac Paddle Pub is already a huge success, according to family and friends of the Jacks.
âWe’re thrilled to have people there and the bands we’ve had, everyone had a great time,â Maher said.
The Potomac Paddle Pub opens to the public on October 4th.
