Dive into this secret underground boat bar in Phoenix

Yo, Ho, Ho and a rum menu (and vodka, tequila and mezcal)! You won’t find a sign on the street for this secret underground cocktail hideaway in Phoenix, but Reflux is an absolute must for those looking for trendy sips in the Valley of the Sun.

Customers will find UnderTow’s 34-seat Tiki Bar under the decks of a 19th-century Clipper ship – or so it seems. Despite the rolling and pitching you might imagine after a drink or two (or maybe because the bartenders are swinging and banging bottles), UnderTow sits firmly under a popular Phoenix cafe.

The atmosphere of UnderTow is unmatched, but be sure to keep a watchful eye on the portholes. As you cruise the jungle river, with skirmishes with the locals, cannon fire and storms at sea, you will see lights flashing, arrows flying, and other scenes from pirate life.

At the center of its kitsch are UnderTow’s tiki cocktails, the menu of which can be found scattered throughout the pages of a scavenger hunt adventure book. They vary in their tropical flavors with tempting names like The disappearance of the Dutch, Contraband goods, Where Never drink from a skull. But the ultimate sip selection is Malloy’s treasure ($ 35), which is served indoors in a treasure chest filled with cinnamon smoke.
