Hello Betty Cruises Into Bethesda with a 40ft boat bar and endless summer vibes

Bethesda is about to meet Hello Betty, a surf and skate-inspired seafood restaurant hailing from coastal California. With a 40-foot boat transformed into a full-service sundeck bar, the restaurant will drop anchor at Pike & Rose later this spring.

The 3,000 square foot North Bethesda restaurant will dock on the second level of Canopy by Hilton (940 Rose Avenue, Bethesda) with 138 seats including a private dining room with 14 seats. The patio’s 40-foot Delta Deadrise Boat Bar, which will open this summer, will seat 23 people.

This is the second Hello Betty restaurant from the Denver-based Sage Restaurant Concepts restaurant group, which first launched the Baja-inspired seafood cafe in Oceanside, California in 2014.

At the Hello Betty outpost, iconic Maryland dishes and ingredients like mumbo sauce and blue crab land on the menu. A bucket of blue crabs grilled over a smoky fire and tossed with Old Bay vinegar is inspired by both crab boils and beach barbecues, while the fish and chips and shelled and eaten shrimp come from the Oceanside location. The kitchen will also offer “canned seafood”, popular in Spain and homemade.

While the Hello Betty Bethesda lacks the ocean view of the original in California, there are plenty of nods to the beach in decor like the boat bar.

Meanwhile, the bar has an endless summer vibe with margaritas, sangrias, and the restaurant’s own orange crush cocktail in addition to ice-cold local beers.

“Expect positive vibes and an inclusive space where friends and family can come together for a good time,” said Ryan Zemel, General Manager of Hello Betty Bethesda.

Hello Betty will open with lunch, dinner, happy hour and weekend brunch this spring. The terrace bar will open in summer.
