LAKE PLACID — The owner of a local real estate agency has applied for permission to operate a new boat rental business on Mirror Lake.

Peter Day, owner of Martha Day Realty, applied to the City and Village Joint Review Board for permission to operate a boat rental business behind the Martha Day Realty storefront in the north end of Main Street.

Day owns the property at 2411 Main Street, where the storefront is located, as well as the land behind it, which has a boathouse and dock on Mirror Lake.

Day told the Joint Review Panel at its meeting last Wednesday that he did not plan to build any new structures or new lighting, but that he planned to install a new bathroom in the basement. floor of his building for customers of the boat rental business. .

The business – Downstairs Boat Rental – will be run by three children aged 12 to 17, he said. The company would offer canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, rowboats and pedal boats for rent, depending on project demand. Suggested hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Day is also requesting permission to install two signs for the boat rental business on the storefront of Martha Day Realty. Both signs would be blue with white lettering with a view of the lake in the background, a design similar to the existing signs on the storefront.

The business would be located next to Mirror Lake Boat Rental.
